Manchester City ran away with the Premier League title last season, finishing 12 points ahead of runners-up Manchester United and with the title looking settled months before the season ended.
Pep Guardiola has now guided the Citizens to league success three times in the past four seasons, although last season still ended disappointingly as they were beaten in the Champions League final by Chelsea, the same team that eliminated them at the semi-final stage of the FA Cup.
Since then, club legend Sergio Aguero has moved on a free transfer to Barcelona. A new striker is almost certainly on the cards for the reigning Premier League champions before the start of the 2021-22 season.
Even before signing a replacement, City are odds on favourites with the bookmakers, as short as 4/6 to win the title. Any football fans confident that Manchester City will sign either Harry Kane or Erling Haaland this summer may want to back them before the price drops further. And new players looking to claim those betting app sign up bonus will have additional funds to stake.
Borussia Dortmund star Haaland has previously been linked with a move to England, with both City and Chelsea regularly mentioned. The Norwegian striker shouldn’t have too many doubts about leaving Signal Iduna Park as the club are far short of being able to compete with Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga championship.
It’s already been a busy summer in the Premier League with Manchester United signing Jadon Sancho, Liverpool bringing in centre-back Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, and Aston Villa splashing out £38 million on Emi Buendia among other signings. And that will only get busier once Euro 2020 finishes on Sunday.
One of those deals could be England captain Harry Kane to Manchester City. The 27-year-old is believed to be the number one target for Pep Guardiola, having spent his entire career with Tottenham Hotspur to date and yet to win a trophy. This despite winning the Golden Boot on three occasions.
Spurs are now expected to cash in on their star and can expect to receive anywhere between £100-150 million for the ace. Kane in the current Manchester City team would-be odds-on favourite to in the Golden Boot, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling creating chances for him.
Another player linked to Manchester City whom could improve the team is Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish. Currently on international duty with Kane and England at Euro 2020, the versatile midfielder is a goalscorer, playmaker and ball winner, often deployed in the middle of the park.
It has previously been reported that Pep wants the duo, though a £100 million figure has also been put on Grealish. For a team that didn’t want to pay over the odds for players including Alexis Sanchez and Victor Lindelof, it’s hard to believe they’d get close to paying such a price for the midfielder this summer.
But should Manchester City get this duo then one would have to expect them to run away with the Premier League again. Pep’s side had the best defensive record last season, conceding just 32 goals, and went late in both the Champions League and FA Cup competitions, with no negative effect on their league performance.
A new striker is a must for them and to get one of the best in the world in Harry Kane would make their attack arguably the best in the world. To further add Jack Grealish, a player equally adept at playing on the left of a front three as he is in the middle of the park, only adds a further goal threat and playmaker.
