These stats show just why Steven Gerrard was offered his new contract.
These statistics from last year’s league season, courtesy of Squawka, show us just why Liverpool have extended Steven Gerrard’s contract for another two seasons.
The legendary midfielder was virtually ever present for Liverpool last season, featuring in 35 games, which he only bettered in the 2006/07 season.
The stats:
-Gerrard completed the 5th highest tally of passes (1987) in the Premier League last season, behind only Arteta, Carrick, Yaya Toure and Cazorla.
-With 83 key passes, he executed more than Gareth Bale (71), Robin van Persie (62) and Eden Hazard (54).
-Gerrard’s nine assists bettered young attacking midfielders Jack Wilshere, Isco and Thiago combined last season, who only managed eight between them.
-Liverpool’s captain created more chances last term (91) than all of these players: Suarez, Ozil, Fabregas, Ibrahimović, Ronaldo, Götze and Messi.
-Gerrard was directly involved in 18 league goals last year – more than Lampard (16), Torres (14) and Baines (10).
-The midfield dynamo was successful with 50 per cent of his through balls, compared to Manchester United target Cesc Fabregas’s 36 per cent.
