Jadon Sancho looked destined for a big transfer all summer – a host of top clubs were linked with him at points, but it eventually became clear that Manchester United were showing the strongest interest in a big-money deal.
There were various twists and turns along the way, with Sancho widely reported to have agreed personal terms and a contract with United, though the Red Devils perhaps underestimated Borussia Dortmund’s desire to keep the England international.
Or perhaps, United overestimated their own pull factor, expecting Sancho to agitate for a move and hand in a transfer request that never came – in the end, this saw the club fail to meet Dortmund’s demands on the August 10 deadline they set, and from there they never managed to revive the deal.
Reports suggest that, by the end of it all, Man Utd annoyed Dortmund with their handling of the saga, and fresh speculation emerging this morning that when next summer comes around, they’re no longer going to be in pole position to sign the talented young attacker.
It’s a long time before we’ll know for sure, but punters may want to start thinking now about which club they might want to back as being Sancho’s next destination, and new customers on Coral can claim offers on sports betting that could further enhance their winnings.
One rumour flying around is that Jurgen Klopp has previously impressed Sancho in talks, and that Liverpool could now be the new favourites to land the 20-year-old.
This would be most painful of all for United fans, with Sancho clearly within their grasp this summer, only for their dithering to now allow their most hated rivals back into the chase.
The Reds already have a world class front three in the form of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, so it’s not entirely clear where Sancho would fit in, but he’s a player good enough to change your tactics for, and Klopp may well view him as the ideal long-term replacement for Salah and Mane, who are both approaching 30.
Bayern Munich also have a history of raiding Dortmund for their best players, and have been linked with Sancho as well. After their treble success last term, it would be very hard indeed for the former Manchester City youngster to turn them down.
It’s previously been claimed that Sancho is a Chelsea fan, while you can surely also expect Real Madrid and Barcelona to try their luck with a move, so after United missed out on a deal this year, this now looks like becoming a highly unpredictable saga that will be worth keeping a close eye on in the months ahead.
