West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce is ready to make an audacious swoop for experienced former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, report the Metro, with the Cameroon international being a free agent since leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
Despite some issues with manager Jose Mourinho, Eto’o retained a solid goalscoring record for Chelsea last season and may be seen as an ideal short term option for the Hammers, who are missing Andy Carroll with injury and will be aware that it may take time for huge new signing Enner Valencia to adapt to the Premier League.
Formerly of Inter Milan and Barcelona, 32 year-old Eto’o has been one of the continent’s finest strikers for the last decade and, despite his powers seemingly being on the wane, he would appear to still have plenty to off to a Premier League.
Allardyce has already secured the signings of two strikers this summer, with former Birmingham City loanee Mauro Zarate during Enner Valencia in a double South American swoop.
Despite the spending, however, rumours persist that a rift exists between Allardyce at the board at Upton Park, with the former Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United manager’s job reportedly on the line this season.
