Hammers agree to take Cruzeiro forward on loan.
Cruzeiro striker Wellington Paulista is set to join West Ham on loan, according to the Brazilian media.
The Brazilian club’s Director of Football Alexandre Mattos confirmed the news early on Saturday in an official statement and thanked the striker for his contribution during his time at the club.
“Cruzeiro thanks Wellington, who is a great professional. He has always honoured the Cruzeiro shirt and Cruzeiro really appreciates him, and he really likes Cruzeiro. The club’s doors are always open to him.”
Details of the deal were not disclosed, but it has been speculated that it will be a simple loan deal until the end of the season. The centre forward will head to London on Sunday night and will undergo medical before signing a contract.
The 28-year old made 160 appearances for the Belo Horizonte club, scoring 75 goals in the process. He struggled in his only season abroad for Alaves in Spain back in 2006-07, managing just 2 goals in 19 matches.
The Hammers continue to bolster their squad after the additions of Joe Cole and Marouane Chamakh earlier this week, as they hope to make a solid push for the Premier League European places in the second half of the season.
