Frenchman gives fans update on who the club will be signing this month.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told the club’s fans that the North London outfit will not be rushing into the January transfer market in order to beef up their first-team squad, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Gunners have been linked with a whole host of big-name players from the Continent since the window reopened at the start of this month, however, the Frenchman insists that Arsenal have a strong enough squad at present to be able to cope with the demands of the second half of this campaign.
And, as a result, Wenger had confirmed that he will not be making any moves to bring in Sevilla centre-forward Alvaro Negredo, as has been reported in some sections of the British press this week, while Nicklas Bendtner will not be returning from his loan spell early from Juventus either.
However, both Andrey Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci have been told that they are free to find new clubs this month.
“You are under pressure always to buy in England and every problem has to be sorted out by buying people,” Wenger said.
“You have other ways to sort out the problems inside the club – it’s getting your injured players back, getting everybody focused and motivated, and it’s not only in buying players that you sort out problems.
“Especially from people who live in a different country, they come end of January and by the time they adapt the season is over.
“I can tell you something, we have no problem with people wanting to join us. I would like to give you my phone for 24 hours, and you would see that.
“The second thing, can we afford them? Most of them, yes. A few of them, no. Can you afford Messi today? Certainly not. But we can afford 90 per cent of them.
“If you look at our squad, it’s quite complete. We still work on the transfer market as well. We do not want to bring in average. We only want to bring in an exceptional player. At the moment we have not found him.”
