The Frenchman is not prepared to sign a new contract just yet.
Arsenal fans are to be left on edge for a little longer as Arsene Wenger confirms that the manager is still undecided on whether the Frenchman will extend the deal beyond this year.
The 64-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer of 2014 and although Gunners chief executive Ivan Gazidis is keen to enter negotiations, Wenger is not ready.
“It’s not a question of my loyalty – I want to feel I can do well for this club. It’s as simple as that,” the boss was quoted by the Daily Mail.
“I can build another new team, but haven’t got 17 years, that is for sure.
“At the minute I’m looking at the short term. I will make a decision about the longer term later.”
With the north London side on such a good run currently it seems like the perfect opportunity for the coach to commit to staying at the Emirates Stadium.
Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on Wenger and are in need of a new manager next season when Laurent Blanc’s deal runs out, so it’s therefore understandable that supporters at Arsenal would be nervous.
So far this campaign the club have won all but two of their matches in all competitions and top both the Premier League and their Champions League group.
Several players have found their form – most notably Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey – and the £42.4m club record signing of Mesut Ozil has also been a huge bonus.
