2. Arsenal
The Gunners have made plenty of noises about finally being able to compete with the big boys in the transfer market this summer but have so far spent a grand total of zilch. Arsenal want to sign one of Rooney, Luis Suarez or Gonzalo Higuain proves they are in the market for a striker, but Rooney is unlikely to win more at the Emirates than at Old Trafford. He would undoubtedly be an immediate starter in north London, however, and United may believe Arsenal do not pose a realistic threat to their Premier League title.
1. Chelsea
The Blues have reportedly had a bid of £10m plus Juan Mata or David Luiz rejected by United but Stamford Bridge still seems the most likely destination for Rooney. The 27-year-old would instantly transform Chelsea into title favourites, making United unlikely to sell for anything other than an irrefutable offer, but there are many that believe Mata, in particular, is more valuable than the England striker. Rooney would surely relish working under Jose Mourinho… Watch this space.
