Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli announces retirement.
Wimbledon ladies’ champion Marion Bartoli has announced her retirement from professional tennis.
The 28 year-old Frenchwoman departs the sport after a rewarding career in which she won eight titles – including that coveted Grand Slam at SW19 this year – and having made her name as a popular, if slightly eccentric player.
Bartoli’s playing style of two handed strokes of both forehand and backhand wings was developed by her father and coach Walter, with her idol Monica Seles too a great influence.
