Watch the President’s full speech congratulating, and mocking, the Heat.
President Barack Obama hosted the Miami Heat on Tuesday, as he congratulated the coaching staff and players on winning the NBA championship last year.
The Heat defended their title in dramatic fashion after overcoming the San Antonio Spurs in the Finals, and will now look to achieve a ‘three-peat’ this season.
As is tradition, the championship winners were invited for a special press conference at the White House, where President Obama praised various figures within the organisation for their work both on and off the court.
However, as a keen Chicago Bulls fan, the President was unable to stop himself from aiming some jibes at the Heat while also jokingly mocking some of the players before defending Mario Chalmers after he was recently seen being shouted at on the court by LeBron James.
“With that, I think we should take a picture. But we should make it quick before one of these guys starts yelling at Mario [Chalmers]. Sometimes it’s just a bad pass, guys, it’s not Mario’s fault. I’ve got your back, man.”
Miami will be hoping to make a third trip to the White House next year, but will be pushed all the way in the Eastern Conference by the Indiana Pacers who currently lead the way as the NBA closes in on the mid-way point of the regular season.
