Power stay in the hunt for AFL finals action after narrow victory.
It may not always have been pretty, but it would matter little to Port Adelaide after they defeated the Brisbane Lions by nine points at AAMI Stadium.
The victory keeps the Powers dreams of playing in the finals alive while killing off those held by Brisbane, who were still a mathematical chance before the clash.
The Lions were two wins behind the Power in eighth place heading into the clash, but on the back of the 9.17 (71) to 9.8 (62) loss they are out of the running with just five weeks left of the home and away series left.
The final quarter had the tension of a final but it was the Power who held firm with Chad Wingard kicking the sole major.
The first 16 minutes of the last term were scoreless as both teams desperately defended.
The deadlock was broken when Wingard goaled after a mad scramble in the goalsquare.
Port Adelaide will play their cross-town rivals the Crows next weekend which shapes as a massive game for more than the normal reasons when the sides clash.
Brisbane will have nothing more than pride on the line when they tackle St Kilda, who are out of sorts having slide down the ladder dramatically in the last two months.
