Diego Costa was left on the bench by Chelsea for the trip to Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon and was left there as the London derby fizzled out into a 0-0 draw. Needless to say, he was not a happy bunny.
The Spain international striker was seen petulantly throwing his warm-up bib towards manager Jose Mourinho after learning that he would not be making an appearance late on at White Hart Lane.
Mourinho instead went with Eden Hazard as his central striker and a fluid front four which caused Spurs problems. He then turned to teenagers Kenedy and Ruben Loftus-Cheek as substitutes rather than Costa.
The 27-year-old has only scored seven times in his last 30 Blues outings, but his omission is unlikely to be down solely to form when Mourinho was without alternatives Radamel Falcao and Loic Remy.
Tensions between the pair could be at an all-time high after Mourinho criticised Costa’s display in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Maccabi Tel-Aviv, as the Daily Mail reports. We’ve not heard the last of this one!
