The then-17-year-old had much to prove after becoming the first guard drafted into the NBA out of high school, and while fans have grown accustomed to such performances in the time since, it is fascinating to look back and see how he started.
The Lakers legend is currently hoping to regain full fitness ahead of the new season after recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, but it promises to be a struggle for the franchise in a competitive Western Conference after losing Pau Gasol this summer to the Chicago Bulls in free agency.
