The duo of Sturridge and Suarez has made Mignolet a better ‘keeper.
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has admitted that training with the lethal striking duo of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez has made the Belgian perform better in games.
After completing a £9m transfer from Sunderland last summer the 25-year-old started the season with a Man of the Match display against Stoke City – in which Mignolet saved a penalty late on to secure the Reds all three points.
However, since the New Year the Belgium international’s performances have dropped and many were starting to criticise the former Black Cats star.
Yet Mignolet has said that training with Sturridge and Suarez – known as ‘SAS’ – has helped the stopper get back to his best between the posts.
“It’s nice to work with Luis and Daniel day in day out as it makes you better as a keeper,” the ‘keeper told the Liverpool Echo.
“We all know what they can do and it’s unbelievable. I see that quality every day.
“When you are one v one with strikers of that quality you learn a lot of things.”
Mignolet has now put in successive good performances in the Premier League against Everton and West Bromwich Albion and the Merseysiders are still fourth in the table and in contention for Champions League qualification.
It’s little wonder the ‘keeper has benefited from being up against Sturridge and Suarez in training, as between the duo they have scored an outstanding 40 goals in 41 appearances.
