Tottenham Hotspur take on Aston Villa in their last match of the 2013/14 Premier League season knowing a point will secure them a Europa League place for next year.
Spurs have a three point gap over seventh-placed Manchester United and therefore at least a draw against the Villans will ensure they play European football for another term, regardless of what Ryan Giggs’ men do at Southampton.
However, regardless of what happens at White Hart Lane this could well be the last game in charge of the north Londoners for manager Tim Sherwood, with increasing speculation the Englishman will be replaced this summer.
Sherwood will therefore be keen to finish his time with Tottenham with a win, especially after losing to London rivals West Ham United last weekend for the second time this year.
The hosts have been victorious in their last three home games however and after Villa’s heavy 4-0 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday, another win for Spurs looks likely.
Paul Lambert’s side secured their top flight safety last weekend when Norwich City drew with Chelsea and seemed to have one eye on the summer when they played at the Etihad Stadium in midweek.
Kyle Walker (pelvis), Andros Townsend (ankle), Erik Lamela (back), Jan Vertonghen (ankle) and Etienne Capoue (foot) are all out for the home side.
The visitors are also suffering an injury crisis, with Jores Okore, Libor Kozak, Christian Benteke, Charles N’Zogbia, Joe Bennett and Gary Gardner all sidelined.
However, Marc Albrighton and Gabriel Agbonlahor could return to the side, whilst Jordan Bowery and Jack Grealish could be given further first team opportunities.
