The forward is thought to be keen on a reunion with his former manager Andre Villas-Boas, but his enormous price tag could be a stumbling block.
Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of lodging a late £30m bid for Zenit St. Petersburg’s Brazilian star Hulk.
The Telegraph believe that he is the final of three remaining signings Spurs are looking to complete before the close of the transfer window in one week’s time.
Spurs are willing to pay £30m for Hulk, for whom Zenit paid £35m for less than one year ago. Understandably, Zenit are demanding £40m for the player, but Spurs are hoping they will be willing to lower their valuation.
Whilst Spurs’ lack of Champions League football might normally prove an issue in this scenario, Hulk is apparently willing to overlook that as he is so keen to play under former manager Andre Villas-Boas again.
Since the collapse of Willian’s proposed move from Anzhi Makhachkala, Spurs are now content with just signing Romanian centre-back Vlad Chiriches and young forward Eric Lamela – should Hulk join he would undoubtedly be the final signing of the summer.
Under Villas-Boas Hulk enjoyed possibly the best form of his career, his two full seasons with the young manager at Porto accumulating a staggering 39 goals and 24 assists in 52 league games.
A not-too-dissimilar player to Gareth Bale – tall, powerful and with a cannon of a left foot, Spurs would be hoping for similar numbers should he hope to aptly fill in for the want-away Welshman on the left-wing.
