Starting a nine-game road trip, the Spurs got off to the perfect start on Wednesday night with two men shining in particular.
Coach Gregg Popovich had point-guard Tony Parker largely to thank after a huge 31-point game, while Danny Green lent a helping hand with 28 points.
Green put on a real show beyond the arc, drilling a career-high eight 3-pointers from 12 attempts and was instrumental in seeing the Spurs home.
Without Duncan and Ginobili to dish out the assists to, Parker scored 30 or more for the seventh time this season as he looks forward to another appearance at the All-Star weekend next week.
Despite the best efforts of Ricky Rubio, who looked close to being back to his best with some creative assists, the Timberwolves fall to 18-28 and are currently well adrift of the play-off spots.
Nikola Pekovic led their scoring with 21 points and 10 rebounds but more is needed from Rick Adelman’s side if they are to turn their fortunes around.
The Wolves move on to face the New York Knicks on Friday, while the Spurs head to Detriot to take on the Pistons on the same night.
