What LVG would be best advised to do, is ditch the current system he is currently employing. Having three centre-backs is clearly not working out, and putting Di Maria in a central midfield role just to accommodate him will eventually prove counter productive.
Neither Falcao or Rooney have the vision, or the versatility, to perform anywhere else than up front for United, and though Rooney may not want to agree, he has proved on a number of occasions that he can do a job on either flank.
But sadly, when taking fellow new arrivals Daley Blind and Ander Herrera into account, the one who will likely suffer is Juan Mata. Once everybody is fit and raring to go, there just may not be enough room for him in any new incantation of the starting XI.
Rooney can influence the game more when he drops deep, and he will ultimately have a greater effect from there than Mata would.
Below is a new line up that would suit Manchester United much better than the one they are currently employing.
