The red-hot Uruguay international has enjoyed a sensational campaign in front of goal for the Reds, having already netted more times, 20, than he did in the whole of last season, leading to intense speculation that should the Merseysiders not finish in the top four of the Premier League come May, and with it qualification for the Champions League, then the 26-year-old will depart Liverpool.
However, Rodgers insists that is not the case and the player, who only signed an improved long-term contract at Liverpool last August, will remain loyal come what may.
“Luis had a terrific season last season and he had an opportunity to leave in the summer, and probably would have had a ready-made excuse with a new manager coming in, but he never did,” Rodgers told the Daily Mail.
“He committed to the club. He sees the vision going forward, and he believes in that.
“He knows it won’t happen overnight. He has had a brilliant season with 20 goals until now, and hopefully there are many more to come.”
