Chelsea player ratings
- 01 Petr Cech – 6
Looked suspect from Southampton’s set-pieces, but still kept the all important clean sheet that saw Chelsea secure the three points that helps them keep pace with Arsenal at the top of the table.
- 28 Cesar Azpilicueta – 7
The Spaniard was played in his natural position at right-back because of Branislav Ivanovic’s injury, and did very well. He was solid defensively, and chose the right moments to get forward up the flank and support Chelsea’s ultra-impressive attackers.
- 03 Ashley Cole – 6
Unlike Azpilicueta, Cole struggled to get forward and join in with attacks, and he was nowhere near his fluid best. This is perhaps because he’s struggled to get in the side in recent weeks, but he should expect an extended run in the team with Ivanovic sidelined.
- 24 Gary Cahill – 7
Cahill was very solid in defence, and did his chances of cementing a place in the Chelsea back line next to John Terry ahead of David Luiz no harm whatsoever. He also passed the ball well, and was not afraid to step out of defence when the time was right.
- 26 John Terry – 6
Not as domineering as his partner Cahill, but still good enough to help his side keep a clean sheet. Terry made one very impressive tackle in the first-half too, that stopped his side from potentially going 1-0 down.
