South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis became the third highest Test run scorer in history after hitting a century in his final Test.
Kallis, 38, surpassed retired Rahul Dravid when he moved onto 115, racking up 13,289 Test runs – one ahead of the retired India legend.
Three balls later, Kallis was caught by keeper MS Dhoni off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja.
After bowling South Africa out for 500, India reached 68-2 at close in their second innings, still 98 runs short of the hosts’ impressive total.
Kallis, who hit 13 boundaries in his 316-ball innings, was supported by Dale Steyn (44) and Robin Peterson, who fired a fiery 61 off 52 balls.
Jadeja, meanwhile, bowled 56 overs and earned a career-best 6-138 in the tourists’ flagging bowling attack.
