Fringe players Rilee Rossouw and Farhaan Behardien are fighting for a spot to replace the injured JP Duminy for South Africa’s five-match ODI series against Australia.
All-rounder Duminy will miss the series after picking up a knee injury during the Twenty20 series between the two nations.
South Africa coach Russell Domingo must make a decision on whether to replace Duminy with either Rossouw or Behardien.
“He (Duminy) has played as a specialist spinner in some one-day games and Tests so it does affect the balance of the team a little bit,” said Domingo.
“We need to get our head around how we are going to fulfil that role in the next few matches.”
The five-match series begins on Monday, with the first of a double-header at the WACA in Perth.
