Former England striker tells Newcastle to buck up their ideas.
Alan Shearer has fired a warning message to his former club Newcastle according to The Daily Mail.
The former Magpies captain believes Newcastle should under no illusions that they’re not involved in a relegation battle. Shearer believes the St. James’ Park may even struggle to stay up if they lose their next two games.
Newcastle sit just two points above the relegation zone after a dreadful recent run of results. They face back-to-back relegation six-pointers against Reading and Aston Villa in their next two games and Shearer has identified them as must-win.
Asked about Newcastle’s survival prospects, Shearer replied ‘If you ask me in two weeks’ time, I will probably be able to give you a different answer, because the next two games are vital. Hopefully it will happen [for Newcastle] on Saturday because otherwise the pressure will crank up.’
‘They need new players. Alan Pardew has said that he is looking for a centre forward. What else he is looking for, I am not quite sure’.
Newcastle surprised many in the league last season after finishing the season in fifth place. Injuries and loss of form have meant they have been unable to replicate that this season and are right down there with the Premier League’s bottom sides.
Pardew may settle for no more players leaving rather than bringing players in, with Demba Ba having recently left for Chelsea and AC Milan looking to deplete his already thin squad further with moves for Tim Krul and Davide Santon.
