Opening weekend of Serie A takes place on August 24/25.
The wait is finally over for the top flight clubs in Italy, as the fixture list for the 2013/14 Serie A season has been released.
The tournament begins on the weekend of August 24/25 and concludes on May 18 2014, with the fixtures now known to the clubs after the draw took place in Milan on Monday evening.
Defending champions Juventus will begin their season away at Sampdoria, the only team to beat them both home and away last year.
Meanwhile, there are five local derbies this season, the first time in the history of the league, with city rivalries taking place in Milan, Rome, Turin, Genoa and Verona.
As part of the complicated process of drawing up the fixtures, derbies were not allowed during the week due to security reasons, while all Champions League and Europa League teams had their European commitments taken into consideration.
Nevertheless, the top teams will now be aware of their first week opponents, with Inter taking on Genoa, while Lazio host Udinese.
Amongst the pick of the fixtures following on from the opening weekend, is the Derby d’Italia between Juventus and Inter in Week 3, while Week 4 sees Milan take on Napoli as well as the Rome derby between Roma and Lazio.
It promises to be an intriguing year in Italy, with no less than six clubs harbouring hopes of clinching the Scudetto. In addition, with just three places available for the Champions League, the competition promises to be fierce.
