In arguably one of the wildest playoff series in some time, the San Antonio Spurs will look to secure their place in the NBA Finals 2014 with a win in Game 6.
Both teams have successfully secured routs at home throughout the opening five games, but the pressure is now on the Thunder to avoid elimination with the Spurs looking to seal a return date with the Miami Heat in the Finals.
Coach Gregg Popovich made a key adjustment last time out switching Matt Bonner in for Thiago Splitter which led to Serge Ibaka being dragged out of the paint and allowing the likes of Tim Duncan to have a steady game and lead the way.
It was undoubtedly a smart move from the Spurs coach to counter his rival Scott Brooks, who had enjoyed a great deal of success following Ibaka’s return as well as promoting Reggie Jackson to the starting line-up.
It remains to be seen whether or not either coach makes more changes in what is a pivotal game, but Kevin Durant insists that it is all of secondary importance when taken into consideration along with energy and effort.
The home teams have won every game in the series so far by at least nine points, and by an average of 20.4 per game with neither coach nor the players being able to explain the trend.
However, with their backs against the wall and their season at risk, the Thunder will undoubtedly give everything and could become a little desperate if things don’t start well, and that is where the experience of the Spurs could come into play.
