Khedira will not follow Jose Mourinho from Real Madrid to Chelsea.
Real Madrid’s German defensive midfielder Sami Khedira is looking forward to working with incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti, and has no intentions of joining Chelsea, reports the International Business Times.
“I have enjoyed working with Mourinho very much and rate him highly,” Khedira told German newspaper Welt Am Sonntag.
“Three years ago he handed me the chance to make the next step from Bundesliga to Real Madrid as a young international. But I am contracted to Real and now I am first of all looking forward to working with Carlo Ancelotti.”
Chelsea are in the market for a defensive midfielder, and have been recently linked with Roma’s Italian Daniele De Rossi. Current defensive midfielder John Obi Mikel is being lined up by huge-spenders Monaco, so a spot could open up in Jose Mourinho’s new look squad.
Khedira’s comments indicate however that he has no plans to leave Real Madrid, and the 26-year-old is looking forward to next year’s title tussle with Barcelona.
Khedira’s style has been compared to Chelsea legend Claude Makelele, who performed so brilliantly for Jose Mourinho during his first stint as Chelsea boss. The Portuguese manager enjoys employing an anchorman in midfield, and it will be interesting to see whether the Blues sign a new player for that position, or if Mourinho keeps faith in his current squad.
