Redknapp had been given permission by the player’s club to speak with the French striker, but the striker is apparently so uninterested in a move to Loftus Road, he refused to meet with the former Spurs boss.
‘He didn’t want to come. It doesn’t help when you’re bottom [of the league]. Players will look at that and if there are other clubs in England after them, it can be difficult’ said Redknapp.

‘I went over to watch him, not that I needed to, I watched him seven times when I was at Spurs. Then he just did not want to speak about coming. I couldn’t even get a meeting with him. I was hoping for a meeting to encourage him to come.’
‘He’s not playing there. He played in the cup last week but he’s not playing.’
‘He wasn’t being disrespectful by not talking but he was in a position where last year at Spurs he was interested and I got on well with him, and I think he felt embarrassed coming to see me to say he wasn’t interested in coming to QPR.’
A number of other Premier League clubs are reported to be interested in the player, including Newcastle, so it appears those clubs may now face reduced competition for the player’s signature.
