Spaniard eyeing reunion with Gerrard and co.
XABI ALONSO wants to end his playing days back at his beloved Liverpool.
The Real Madrid midfield star’s current deal has 18 months to run and the Spanish giants won’t start talks until the summer.
But by then, Alonso, 31, will already have decided on his future, with a desire to link up once more with his great friend, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.
Alonso and Gerrard talk regularly with the Kop star saying: “Xabi Alonso is the best midfielder I have played with. I miss playing with him.”

Then-Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez’s decision to sell Xabi Alonso and attempt to replace him with Gareth Barry remains one of the most baffling in Premier League history but the Spaniard (Alonso, not Benitez) could be set for an emotional return to Anfield.
The midfield pass-master never wanted to leave Liverpool and, since his move to Real Madrid in 2009, the 31-year-old has often spoken fondly of the Anfield faithful.
Alonso showed his class with a tweet in support of the Hillsborough victims earlier this year and Liverpool has never remained far from this thoughts, making a return a distinct possibility.
Even so, Alonso is likely to find a much-changed Liverpool side, fighting for a spot in the Europa League rather than titles, should he return.
That said, Alonso’s fine technique and style would suit Brendan Rodgers passing game to a tee and the classy Spain international would surely appreciate playing alongside Joe Allen, who loves to keep the ball.
If Alonso does decide to call time on his spell at the Bernebeu, Liverpool will face competition for his signature and don’t rule out a cheeky bid from Chelsea – particularly if Benitez remains in charge against the odds.
But Liverpool clearly has a place in the midfielder’s heart and that could prove the deciding factor.
