Los Blancos have entered the race for the Monaco forward.
AS Monaco star Radamel Falcao is linked with a January transfer away from the Principality and Real Madrid have now joined Chelsea in the race for the 27-year-old, according to the Daily Express.
Falcao has only been with the super-rich Ligue 1 club since the summer after a £51m switch from Atletico Madrid, yet Monaco may be forced to sell the forward to come into line with UEFA’s new Financial Fair Play regulations.
This has alerted the Blues, who were keen on the Colombia international before the attacker decided to switch to Claudio Ranieri’s side.
However, with Madrid needing attacking support due to the uncertain future of Karim Benzema at the Santiago Bernabeu and the sale of Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli in the summer, the Spanish giants are also interested.
Los Blancos know that Falcao can succeed in La Liga having scored 71 goals in just 90 appearances for their city rivals Atletico.
Even Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has appealed to club president Florentino Perez to try and bring the South American back to the Spanish capital.
Yet the west London side are still believed to be winning the race, partly because their owner Roman Abramovich has a friendly relationship with opposite number at Monaco Dmitry Rybolovlev.
Secondly Falcao is represented by Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes – the same man who also boasts Jose Mourinho as a client.
With Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and new signing Samuel Eto’o all failing to truly impress up-front so far this season, Mourinho would welcome a new attacker and Falcao certainly has the superstar status that would please the Stamford Bridge faithful.
