Harry Redknapp’s team may be bottom of the top-flight but they remain 31 places above Milton Keynes in the English league system. But the third tier outfit made a mockery of that gap with an emphatic win at Loftus Road to book their place in the last 16.
With Premier League survival the main goal for the Redknapp, the 65-year-old made nine changes from the side that drew 1-1 at West Ham last weekend.
His team still included seven internationals but the Dons, seventh in League One, seized control right from the start.
Karl Robinson’s men took the lead in the fourth minute when defender Dean Lewington stabbed his effort towards goal from a corner and QPR left-back Armand Traore got the final touch to turn the ball into his own net.
Milton Keynes doubled their advantage five minutes before half-time when Ryan Lowe latched on to a ball over the top and lashed home.
It got even worse for QPR five minutes into the second half as substitute Ryan Harley converted Lowe’s pass.
QPR’s embarrassment was complete when woeful defending at a corner allowed Darren Potter to fire past goalkeeper Robert Green in the 56th minute.
Jay Bothroyd got one back for QPR in the 83rd minute and Brazilian defender Fabio da Silva bagged the hosts’ second from close-range in stoppage-time, but it was too late to spare Redknapp’s blushes.
