The huge spending Parisians could make Pedro their latest superstar…
Ligue 1 side PSG have made Barcelona a huge £34m bid for Spanish winger Pedro, reports French publication Le 10 Sport.
The 26-year-old is currently negotiating a new contract with the Catalan giants – who would more than likely be unwilling to sell one of their most consistent performers.
Pedro is entering his peak years, helping Barcelona to another La Liga championship last season, and scoring seven goals for Spain in the 2012 calendar year.
After selling Thiago to Bayern Munich and David Villa to Atletico Madrid earlier in the window – Barcelona would not want to further weaken their squad. Despite the £50m arrival of Brazilian prodigy Neymar, Barcelona’s squad is not huge – and Pedro would not doubt have a big role to play this season.
Furthermore, Barcelona would not want to sell to PSG after the French club flatly refused to negotiate a deal for centre-half Thiago Silva – threatening to counter bid for Lionel Messi instead.
PSG have already made Edinson Cavani the most expensive signing in world football this summer, acquiring him from Napoli for £55m. With Real Madrid imminently signing Gareth Bale though for a world record fee – Barcelona would be loathe to weaken their squad ahead of their pursuit of La Liga and Champions League glory.
