Why Preston fans could target former United manager.
Preston North End are set to increase security for their FA Cup fifth round tie against Manchester United due to fears that the home fans could target Sir Alex Ferguson, the Daily Telegraph reports.
The Scot is an unpopular figure at Deepdale following his recalling of two loan players from the club when his son Darren was sacked back in 2010.
Preston ultimately got relegated from the Championship that season and have been unable to fight their way back from League One, with plenty of bad feeling still aimed at the former Old Trafford boss.
Ferguson, now a club ambassador and director, is often in attendance at United games now, and Preston will be on alert as he visits Deepdale for this tie.
