The San Francisco 49ers have endured a disappointing start to the season, but they will be looking to get back on track against the unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
The Niners started 1-2 last season before going on to win 11 of their final 13 games to secure their place in the NFC championship game, but there are genuine doubts over whether or not this current group is capable of repeating history.
While Coach Jim Harbaugh insists that he has great confidence in his team’s ability to get it right starting on Sunday, they will be under pressure to avoid slipping to their worst start and the first back-to-back home losses since 2010.
There has been talk this week of how the franchise need to improve their running game in particular, with Frank Gore not playing a significant role in their opening three games.
However, that won’t be the only headache that Harbaugh will have on Sunday, as he will also need to mastermind a way of limiting Nick Foles and the Eagles offense.
Philadelphia (3-0) are just one of three remaining undefeated teams in the league, and they also became the first team in NFL history to win its first three games despite trailing by at least 10 points in each.
Quarterback Foles insists that it comes down to great camaraderie within the group, and given that he leads the NFL with 326.0 passing yards per game, he has also played an influential role in their bright start.
The Eagles are second in the league with 33.7 points per game, and against a 49ers defense that is struggling with injuries, they will be looking to hit them quick and score in bunches just as they have done previously.
San Francisco leads the all-time series 17-12-1, and they ended a five-game losing streak against the Eagles with their 24-23 win in October 2011.
