Petra Kvitova is the only remaining Wimbledon champion left in the women’s draw, and the Czech player has found the grass courts of SW19 something of a sanctuary.
Despite inconsistent results elsewhere on the WTA tour, Kvitova has performed well at Wimbledon, reaching the semi finals in 2010, winning the tournament in 2011 and the quarter finals last year.
She faces Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium in the last eight, who is playing in her first ever Grand Slam quarter final.
Kvitova ought to be a comfortable favourite on paper, her power and left handed strokes make her a tricky customer for many opponents.
However, the 23 year-old has struggled somewhat for form so far, dropping sets to Coco Vandeweghe and Ekaterina Makarova, and her much vaunted forehand has seemed to find the tramlines as often as it has painted the lines.
Flipkens has less pressure upon her shoulders.
The Belgian has already exceeded her own expectations and should be free to hit out at will.
On paper, Kvitova ought to come through, but there are no guarantees of anything in such an upset-ridden Wimbledon draw.
