After seven weeks and 34 matches the 2013/14 Big Bash League has finally reached its climax as Perth Scorchers take on Hobart Hurricanes at the WACA in the final.
Against the odds these sides knocked out the two teams that finished above them in the table – Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers – on their own turf.
Picking a favourite has been tough for pundits, but with the Scorchers having reached the final for the past two years and beating Hobart already in this year’s tournament, they slightly edge it.
Perth’s Craig Simmons was a relative unknown at the start of the tournament but is now a feared opener after scoring two centuries in the competition – including the fastest in Big Bash history off 39 balls in the semi-final victory over the Sixers.
Veteran all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas is extremely experienced in Twenty20 cricket and despite only joining the Hurricanes midway through the season, is one of their most important players.
The Scorchers will be hoping to make it third time lucky in this match having fallen at the final hurdle on the last two occasions and have included Shaun Marsh in the squad, despite the Australian missing the semis due to fitness issues.
For Hobart Ben Laughlin has a quad injury and Shoaib Malik has been recalled back to Pakistan for international duties, so Joe Mennis and Aiden Blizzard have been brought into the squad.
