Rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez could be on the cards later this year.Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao has declared he will fight again by September this year but against a yet to be determined opponent.
Coming off two losses in a row, the Filipino pugilist said fans of his and the sport will have to wait a little bit longer before a date and an opponent can be announced.
“Tell them (the fans) to be patient. Bob Arum (promoter of Top Rank boxing) and myself have been talking and will continue talking. What is definite is they’ll see me fight again come September. Not April nor immediately after that as speculations are going. Tell the public that it won’t be long before I make them happy again when I fight,” Pacquiao said.
Pacquiao left the door open for a possible fifth fight against Juan Manuel Marquez saying he will fight the Mexican if he wants to continue their history together.
“Marquez, according to news reports, doesn’t want to fight me for the fifth time. It actually is up to him,” Pacquiao.
“Me? Well, everybody knows I’ll fight anyone. I am not scared of anybody. And that is the reason why boxing fans like me so much. I never avoid anyone.
“I don’t choose easy fights. I will fight anybody, anytime, anywhere. If he doesn’t want to fight me then I don’t want to fight him either. So be it. It’s that simple.
He says he doesn’t want to fight me because he won our last fight? Well, I am still ahead in the tally of our last four fights. I won two, lost one and drew one.”
But it is the stunning nature of Pacquiao’s last loss to Manuel Marquez that would cause him to question whether going up against the tough Mexican is advisable for the 34-year-old.
Manuel Marquez stunned the boxing world when he left Pacquiao motionless face down on the canvas after six rounds for the WBO Champion of the Decade belt.
