The Patriots will be without several key skill position players for their Week 16 matchup with their hated-rival, the New York Jets.
The team announced Saturday night that WR Julian Edelman, CB Kyle Arrington and RB LeGarrette Blount have all been ruled out of Sunday’s game.
Edelman was diagnosed with a concussion during the week and did not travel to New Jersey, indicating that he wasn’t able to gain clearance through the concussion protocol despite being a limited participant in practices during the week. Edelman has a team-leading 92 catches for 972 yards (2nd on the team) this season, so it’s likely that Brandon LaFell, Tim Wright or Danny Amendola will need to step up to replace his level of production.
Arrington has been bothered by a hamstring injury that knocked him out of last week’s game against the Dolphins. Arrington had played in 83 straight regular season games for the Patriots. Blount was listed on the injury report with a shoulder injury and his absence could lead to the return of Jonas Gray, who played well against Miami last Sunday.
