With Chris Paul visibly upset with his role in the Los Angeles Clippers’ collapse at the end of Game 5, they must find a way to bounce back against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Paul conceded after that encounter that he felt it was on him after he fouled Russell Westbrook to set up the winning free throws while he also committed two crucial turnovers all in the final 14 seconds.
As a result, the game slipped away from the Clippers who could have been returning home looking to close out the series, but instead they are set to fight for their lives again at the Staples Center.
Blake Griffin insisted that the blame wasn’t solely on Paul and that the entire team made mistakes down the stretch, while coach Doc Rivers was upset with a call made in the closing stages which turned out to be crucial.
Rivers claimed that his team “were robbed” on the out-of-bounds call that handed possession back to the Thunder, although the NBA issued a statement on Wednesday claiming that the call was made correctly.
In contrast, the Thunder will now look to make their third Western Conference final in four years as Kevin Durant and Westbrook continue to propel them forwards while the Clippers stumbled their way over the finish line last time out.
However, the visitors will remember their own collapse in Los Angeles in Game 4, with coach Scott Brooks praising their tenacity in getting back as his dynamic duo counter the more balanced attack from the Clippers.
Griffin insists that his team have done a great job of bouncing back from adversity this off-season, but they will need to do so one more time at least if they are to keep their season alive.
