In the final game on the NBA schedule ahead of the All-Star break this weekend, the Los Angeles Lakers host Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Lakers will be looking to avoid the longest home losing streak in the team’s history as they are in danger of suffering their seventh consecutive loss at the Staples Center, something they haven’t experienced since moving to Los Angeles in 1960.
During that barren run at home they have slipped to 18-34 overall and have dropped 21 of their last 26 games which leaves coach Mike D’Antoni with the only hope that he will be able to recover some of his key players after the All-Star break.
Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Nick Young, Jodie Meeks and Xavier Henry are all ruled out, while Steve Nash and Jordan Farmar are expected to miss the game against the Western Conference’s best team too.
Oklahoma City (42-12) won the first meeting 122-97 back in December behind 31 points from Durant, who has gone on an incredible run over the past 21 games, averaging 35.2 points and 53.3 percent shooting.
“We’re a resilient team.,” Durant told the team’s official website, as reported by NBA.com.
“We don’t only play hard when we’re winning. We’re not only happy when we’re winning. We keep our heads up through adversity and through tough times. That’s just how we are as an organization.”
Aside from the threat posed by Durant, the Lakers will have to find a way to deal with the likes of Reggie Jackson, Jeremy Lamb and Serge Ibaka. These are desperate times for the purple and gold half of LA, as they look to give their fans something to cheer about heading into the All-Star weekend.
