A stoppage-time equaliser from Kenwyne Jones broke the hearts of 10-man Norwich victory in their first Premier League match at Carrow Road in six years.
The Canaries took the lead after a shaky start on the 37th minute after a wonderful curling free-kick from Bradley Johnson met Ritchie de Laet on the head which glanced Asmir past Begovic.
Leon Barnett was harshly sent off for a foul on Jon Walters, who then had the resulting penalty saved by John Ruddy.
But deep into time added on, Norwich paid the price for defending far too deep. Whelan put a ball in from the right and Kenwyne Jones rose to plant the ball beyond Ruddy into the corner.
1-0 (De Laet)
