Wenger says club are ‘waiting’ on midfielder but progress is slow.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says midfield enforcer Abou Diaby will definitely miss the Christmas period and has no return date at present.
Diaby has not featured for Arsenal since suffering a thigh injury against Chelsea on 29 September and Wenger is thought to be keen to sign West Ham’s Mohamed Diame in January as a replacement.
When asked about the midfielder’s injury, Wenger said: “We are in no man’s land on that front. He is working, but we are waiting.”
The under-pressure Frenchman confirmed that his compatriot will miss the busy Christmas and New Year period and refused to set a date for his return.
Reports have suggested that Wenger, whose side are 15 points off the pace in the Premier League and were dumped out of the League Cup by Bradford on Tuesday night, has money to spend in January but the 63-year-old refused to discuss transfers.
“I’m not talking transfers. We have a strong squad, we have to put it right,” he said.
