Steelers looking to improve their secondary for next season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be the front-runners to sign Louis Delmas for the 2014-15 NFL season after the safety visited the team this week.
released by the Detroit Lions in order to help them save $6 million on their salary cap, Delmas will be coveted this off-season and should be one of the hottest properties in the NFL free-agent market.
Delmas is only 26 years old, and he’s coming off a three-interception season after starting all 16 games with Detroit last year.
Pro Football Focus ranked him as the No. 26 safety out of 86 in 2013, but Delmas has struggled with the health of his knees during his five-year career (he missed 13 combined games in 2011 and 2012).
And with the Steelers seemingly unlikely to re-sign Safety Ryan Clark, Delmas could be an ideal fit for Pittsburgh, however, they may have to fend off offers from Minnesota, Atlanta and even the Lions, if they want to take him back at a reduced salary.
