The Magpies look to Marseille for Ba replacement.
Newcastle United are wasting no time in their hunt for a replacement for Chelsea-bound Demba Ba.
According to The Metro, they have already begun talks with Ligue 1 side Marseille to discuss a transfer for French striker Loic Remy.
Newcastle officials opened talks with Marseille a few days but have intensified negotiations in order to speed up any deal now that Ba has all but completed his move to Chelsea.
Marseille are holding out for £15 million for the French international but the Magpies are looking to conduct a deal closer to the £10 million mark.
Remy has hit the back of the net regularly for Marseille, scoring 27 times in 68 appearances. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew will be hoping Remy can replicate that kind of form at St. James Park and salvage Newcastle’s season.
Following their 2-1 defeat to Everton, Newcastle are currently lying in 15th place and just two points above the relegation zone.
Faced with the imminent prospect of the departure of their top scorer, Ba, who has scored 13 out of their 27 goals this season, Newcastle are keen to bring a replacement in as soon as possible.
While a deal is unlikely to be finalised by the time Newcastle play Brighton on Saturday, they are hoping to have Remy within their ranks in time for the visit to Norwich the following weekend.
