Rennes have confirmed that the 22-year-old midfielder can leave the club this month and M’Vila favours a move to the Premier Leageu, despite interest from Russian outfit Zenit St Petersburg.
Toon boss Alan Pardew needs to breath fresh life into his struggling team and believes the tough-tackling Frenchman could be an astute signing.
Struggling QPR saw a bid for M’Vila rejected last week, while Arsenal are continuing to monitor the situation.
The Gunners baulked at Rennes’ £17m asking-price over the summer but boss Arsene Wenger has learnt that his compatriot could be available for as little as £8m this month, reigniting his interest.
M’Vila has endured a miserable time since clashing with teammates at Euro 2012, losing his place in the Rennes first-team and national squad, before being banned from international football for 20 months after breaking curfew on under-21 duty.
The player has already rejected a move to QPR but would jump at the chance of a fresh start with either Newcastle or Arsenal.
