Arsenal manager wants to be active in January transfer window.
Arsenal may have lost to Manchester City at the weekend, but there may be one positive to come out of the match – the Gunners are now likely to push forward with signings.
With Arsene Wenger now having seen how much ground his team have to make up on the likes of Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea, it appears likely that the Gunners will enter the market with added resolve.
Of course, Arsenal were not aided by the fact that they went down to ten men quite so early on in the match with Laurent Koscielny getting sent off after just ten minutes, but to be 24 points behind Man Utd after just over half the season is staggering.
“I don’t envisage any other departures at the moment unless others come in,” said Wenger.
“On that front we are working very hard – I won’t give you numbers or names of players, and I don’t want to give false hope, but we are trying.”
Arsenal and Wenger have been linked with the signings of a huge number of players – David Villa of Barcelona, Adrian Lopez of Atletico Madrid, Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace and Mohamed Diame of West Ham to name but a few.
If Arsenal could secure just two from that list before the end of the month, they would have had a very successful January off the pitch.
It will be interesting to see if they can enjoy similar success on it for the rest of the season.
