After Love showed up in Boston last summer while still with the Minnesota Timberwolves, speculation has consistently linked him with a switch to the Celtics.
The Los Angeles Lakers have also never been far from his situation, despite the fact that he has repeatedly stated this year that he intends on staying with the Cavs for the foreseeable future.
However, various things can change between now and the end of the season which may force him to consider his options, as although the Cavs look as though they are now the team that everyone feared they would be, this season hasn’t all been smooth sailing.
The 26-year-old has previously conceded that he has had trouble fitting in, and that led to an awkward situation with teammate LeBron James who appeared to take a dig at him on Twitter.
Nevertheless, all parties concerned insist that all is well, and Love is expected to prioritise a new deal with the Cavs when he hits free agency this summer.
“The Celtics have a ton of cash and are geared up to use it. Target number one is Kevin Love. Target number two is Greg Monroe,” Basketball Insiders reported.
“Sources close to the process say the Celtics plan to swing for the proverbial fences this summer including runs at Gasol, Leonard and Butler too.”
Love is expected to opt out and get a better deal for himself in Cleveland, so the Celtics may well have to look elsewhere with Monroe linked with an exit from Detroit.
What is clear for now is that the Celtics have a lot of assets and they won’t be afraid to use them this summer as they look to acquire some big names.
