Irving downplays ankle injury: Point guard says boot is precautionary.

Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving is expected to sit out the pre-season game against the Miami Heat in Rio de Janeiro this weekend.
Irving collided with team-mate Anderson Varejao during practice on Tuesday but after being sent for x-rays and an MRI scan, there was no significant damage.
“It was crazy how it happened, I’m just glad I’m doing OK now,” Irving said Thursday. “I’m just going to get ice and as much treatment as I can.”
The 22-year-old was seen wearing a protective boot this week but took to Twitter to insist that it was merely precautionary, and that he is in no danger of missing the start of the season.
However, it is reported that he will likely sit out of the meeting with the Heat in Brazil on Saturday, and although he insists that he is fine, it is perhaps a sensible move in order to avoid aggravating the problem.
Irving conceded that the players are still getting to know each other during pre-season, with the Cavs adding several new faces to the roster this summer, and that is what led to the mis-understanding with Varejao.
LeBron James, Kevin Love and Shawn Marion are just three of the new acquisitions, but naturally despite the potential of some early teething problems, they are expected to gel together under new coach David Blatt and challenge for an NBA championship.
Irving was out of the walking boot by Thursday and joined his team-mates on their promotional and sight-seeing trips, but it is expected that he will be watching on as James faces his former team-mates for the first time since leaving this off-season and re-joining the Cavs.
