Pacers confident of George recovery: Indiana expect George to make full recovery from broken leg.
Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel has signed a new multi-year extension with the franchise, although terms of the deal were not announced.
The 41-year-old in entering the fourth full season as a head coach after taking charge on an interim basis back in January 2011.
In that time, Vogel has led the Pacers to the Eastern Conference Finals twice, but the franchise have come up short on both occasions against the Miami Heat.
Nevertheless, the Pacers front office have seen enough from Vogel to suggest that he is the right man to lead them forward in the forthcoming years, and he will be desperate to take the next step.
“We’re very happy to extend Frank’s contract,” president of basketball operations Larry Bird said in a statement on Wednesday.
“I believe he has done a great job, and I look forward to continuing our relationship and working together to achieve all of our goals.”
However, Indiana are expected to struggle this season as after losing Lance Stephenson in free agency, they will also likely be without star man Paul George for the entire year after he sustained a broken leg.
George suffered the freak incident during an exhibition game for Team USA earlier this summer ahead of the FIBA World Cup, and although he is expected to make a complete recovery, it is highly unlikely that he will feature this season.
Vogel will still have a strong core of players to depend on in the form of Roy Hibbert, David West and George Hill, but he will have to do something special in order to compete with the likes of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls for a strong seeding in the Eastern Conference this coming season.
