Wade re-signs with Miami Heat: DWade commits to the franchise.
Wade reveals he knew LeBron was leaving: Heat star knew James wanted to return home.
Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade has insisted that despite LeBron James’ decision to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer, the pair remain close friends.
Wade was speaking with Bleacher Report, and discussed various topics including how he believes that there is a renewed focus and energy at the franchise to prove that they can still be competitive this season.
However, he reveals that he will still maintain a close friendship with his former team-mate after they went to four consecutive NBA Finals together.
The 32-year-old is preparing for his 12th season in the NBA, and while he conceded that last year “wasn’t fun”, he believes that it is a fresh start for everyone this time round.
“We got here, we teamed up, became even closer. And now it’s the same thing. You know, we’re still gonna be friends, and we’re still gonna compete our ass off, until the day we can’t compete no more.”
“I think now I’m at the point where I want to enjoy the game. Because once I’ve won three championships and been so successful, you’ve got to have something to play for. And I want to be able to play for my teammates and just the joy of the game.”
Wade admits that joy was missing last season as the Heat lost out to the San Antonio Spurs, but with a whole host of new faces on the roster this season, he is ready to embrace a new challenge and help his team-mates to the same level of success that he has enjoyed over the years.
Luol Deng and Danny Granger are just two of the new signings this summer, and the Heat will hope to compete with their rivals in the Eastern Conference and reach the playoffs, where they may well have to navigate their way past LeBron and the Cavs at some point.
