Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose has allayed fears over his ankles after he reportedly suffered sprains in both during the loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Rose isn’t sure how the initial left ankle sprain occurred, but he wasn’t too concerned about it after the game. Meanwhile, the right ankle sprain came when he landed awkwardly on Kyrie Irving’s foot.
The second sprain ultimately led to Rose heading to the locker room, and although he was listed as questionable to return, he failed to do so and the Bulls missed their star guard down the stretch as LeBron James took over in overtime.
Nevertheless, after X-rays came back negative, Rose was in good spirits as he left the United Center and he is hopeful that he will be able to play against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night.
“Don’t worry, it’s just an ankle sprain,” Rose explained.
“I guess it’s part of the process. Of course the gods are testing me right now, but it’s fine. I think I’ll be able to get through it.”
The 26-year-old scored 20 points, grabbed four rebounds and had four assists in 25 minutes of action. However, the ankle trouble was undoubtedly bothering him as he was largely ineffective in the third quarter scoring just two points in nine minutes and he opted to leave the bench during the fourth.
“Right now I’m feeling good,” Rose said. “Of course, my ankle is throbbing a little bit right now but it comes with just playing basketball, and I’m just happy it’s not that serious.”
Naturally, after such devastating injuries over the past two seasons, when Rose came up limping after stepping on Irving’s foot the United Center audibly gasped as they feared the worst.
However, team-mate Kirk Hinrich said that the players will say a little prayer for him but ultimately the focus will be on bouncing back on Saturday.
